Trying Out New Manga Series: Part 2
I've got 5 more series to try!
So let's dive in, shall we?
If you missed part one, go here
1. The White Cat's Revenge as Plotted from the Dragon King's Lap Vol.1.
Ruri can't seem to catch a break in life. Ever since she was little, a girl named Asahi has been there to thwart her intentionally at every corner. When he is unexpectedly pulled into another universe with Asahi, Ruri is quickly on the bad side of everyone in the kingdom, and goes out into the country on her own.
When she meets an older woman named Chelsie, she starts to discover that she actually has great magical powers, and wants revenge on the kingdom. This is her story.
I love the innocence and joy that we see from Ruri. The way that the Faeries continually take her side in things and fawn over her is a lot of fun, and the art is super cute! I am so excited to keep going with this one! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

2. A Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendation Vol. 1.
Lizel finds himself in a world that looks a lot like his, but isn't really his. As he is starting to find his way around and make his way, he comes across Gil, a seasoned adventurer. Until Lizel can find his way home, he wants to explore this world he is currently in. He recruits Gil to stick with him as they explore this world.
This series seems to be about Lizel becoming an adventurer himself while he is searching for his kingdom. I found myself not really focusing in on this one, and it wasn't keeping my attention. Sadly, I think I am going to be done with it. ⭐⭐⭐

3. Queen's Quality Vol 1.
This sequel series continues right where QQ Sweeper leaves off with Fumi living with Kyotaru and his family, with a profession as a sweeper. I can't say too much about this without spoiling QQ Sweeper, so I won't elaborate on details of the series.
I love the way that the partnership is progressing between Fumi and Kyotaru. I cannot wait to see how that continues to progress throughout this series for sure. I am enjoying the new character introduced in this volume as well. It adds a more flushed out element to the volume.
I continue to adore this world, and this mangaka for deciding to expand on what we learned in the beginning series. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

4. From Far Away Vol.1.
Noriko is on her way home from school, when she is unexpectedly transported to another world. Assumed dead in her world, she starts to panic. When a creature from the depths tries to eat her, a beautiful man named Izark rescuses her. (Talk about a shojo hunk!)
There is a clear language barrier between the two, and Noriko feels so alone. Izark knows that "The Awakening" was prophesied, but he didn't expect this phenomenon to include a helpless girl who kindly asked him for his name.
I am liking the direction of this series. It's reminding me a bit of Red River. They really should repub all of these old fantasy romance shojo titles for me! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

5. Scarlet Soul Vol.1 & 2.
Rin has no desire to be an exorcist for her people. That is what the Shirano family is known for in their kingdom, and expected to do. She just wants to spend time with her best friend and demon companion, Aghyr.
When her older sister, Lys, disappears in the middle of the night, it is up to Rin to take care of the kingdom, despite them being uncomfortable with her and her arrangement with Aghyr.
It seems that a really sweet romance is beginning to grow between Rin and Aghyr, and I think Lys is truly just trying to get Rin to step into her powers, so she is staying away for now. (That is my prediction at least. Don't know for sure yet, of course.)
In the first volume in particular, I found the title to be a bit text heavy, and throwing a lot of info at you all at once. Once the story settles in a bit, it does much better in my opinion.
With not much known about the series, I am not sure how many volumes there will be total in the series. At the rate it is going, I don't expect it to be very long unless there are some major things that happen in the next volume or two. With Tokyo Pop being the publisher that picked this one up, it's hard to know. They may have chosen a shorter one on purpose. Who knows. All I know is that I haven't heard much about the series, which made me curious.
The political part of this plot definitely picks up in the second volume, and definitely had me more invested in the series as a whole. There is a twise with Rin and Aghyr that I wasn't quite expecting, but it makes their connection all the sweeter.
Vol. 1 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Vol. 2 ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5

So, what did trying out all of these at once teach me? One, don't start so many series at the same time! Two, that I am truly starting to hone in on the types of manga that I enjoy the most, so that I can share things that I truly love with you guys. Three, that it's ok to switch to a digital collect on some series, and that I don't have to have every series right this second. This helped me align my collecting better, so that my budget can be more effective for my enjoyment levels.
I hope you found this experiment helpful as well, and maybe found a new series you feel like trying.
