My Boss's Kitten Volume 1 by Yumi Hisawa

Image
When it comes to Kodansha's Digital First campaign, I have found it to be a wonderful treasure trove of smutty manga. Their most recent Josei title, My Boss's Kitten, is the topic of today's conversation. Aya Fujisawa is a working adult in her mid twenties, who at the beginning of this volume, is left at the alter by her long time boyfriend. Not only that, but she now has to move out of the home they were supposed to be living in together after lovingly putting renovations into the home. Her job is the only thing she has going for her. Her team leader, Kamiya bluntly pointed this out to her when she comes back to work.  Aya is at her home for the evening, when someone enters her home.  She had been given until the end of the week to vacate, but the new owner already has keys. It just happens to be Kamiya, her boss at work. Due to the late hour, he offers to let her stay for that night, and until she can find another place on her own. He teases her that if she were ...

Top 10 Shoujo Manga I am Currently Collecting!

Image
I have a manga love, and that is Shoujo manga! I wanted to take a moment to talk about some of my favorite shoujo series that I am currently collecting!  I've only been reading manga for about 3 years now, and so I still have a lot that I want to collect.  These are some of my favorites that I always look forward to the next release.  These are also not in any particular order, because I cannot choose between them!  I love them all equally! 1. Yona of the Dawn (current with the US publish) 16 year old Yona sets off on a fantastic journey to try to get her kingdom back after her father is brutally murdered before her eyes by someone that she trusts dearly. With the help of some gorgeous men who carry the souls of dragons that she gathers along the way, this beautiful coming of age story is full of political strategy, adorable antics, and an adorable squirrel. Did I mention the gorgeous guys?  Because they are REALLY HOT!! (I'm rooting for Ha...

THE ANCIENT MAGUS BRIDE VOL. 11 by Kore Yamazaki

Image
Ok friends, for those who don't follow my Youtube channel, you should know that this is one of my favorite currently publishing series right now, and I tend to do deep dives on these volumes.  If you have not read any of the series, I recommend trying it out!  We started a new story arc at vol 10.  I did a deep dive on that volume in a video, which you can watch here ! SPOILER WARNING IN EFFECT! WE ARE DIVING INTO VOLUME 11! Volume 10 left us on a cliff hanger in regards to the church. Someone is trying to remove Simon from being the person to watch over Elias and his doings in the area. Thankfully, no one outside of the one person sent really wants that, and they are quickly taken down. What we learn at this point is that there is a faction of the church that really doesn't want anything to do with our paranormal friends, and they are slowly trying to manipulate things so that they chase off all of the paranormals. (Not that this is grossly shortened an...

Should I continue Arakawa Under The Bridge?

Image
So, recently I was sent Arakawa Under the Bridge by a friend of mine.  I read the first volume, and I have some feelings about it... This particular series is a bit on the obscure side.  We have short, episodic chapters in the series, as well as a quirky plot.  In this story, we are following a man named Kou Ichinomiya. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and his life decided for him.  He just had to live up to people's expectations, and never owe anyone anything. What he doesn't expect is being rescued by a woman who says she is from Venus, and to owe her something because of it. Nino, the woman in question, is homeless and lives under the bridge by choice. There she lives with a myriad of really crazy and cooky people. Kou tries to give her money, and she doesn't want it. All she wants is for him to teach her about love. Now, I read this a few weeks back, and I continue to randomly think about it when I let my mind wander, which makes me think I sh...

An Incurable Case of Love Vol 1

Image
AN INCURABLE CASE OF LOVE VOL 1 BY MAKI ENJOJI Thanks to my friends at Viz Media for sending me a copy for review! When I heard there was a new josei series coming to the Shojo Beat imprint of Viz Media, I could hardly contain my excitement!  Then, when I saw this cover, I KNEW I needed to try it out, and probably add it to my ever growing collection. Nanase Sakura witnessed a young doctor help an elderly woman when she was in her formative years.  This kind, handsome doctor showed her that she wanting to work in the medical field as a nurse assisting doctors like him. Over 5 years as she studies her butt off, she also thinks very fondly of the young doctor. She ends up with quite the crush on the doctor she remembers. When Sakura is reunited with the handsome doctor, Kairi Tendo, he makes a less than favorable impression.  A hard nose, rough around the edges person, he basically calls her stupid as soon as she is near him.  That happens to be ...

After The Rain Manga Series Review

Image
AFTER THE RAIN BY JUN MAYUZUKI When I started to read this series, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel honestly. All I knew going into it was that it contained an age gap romance. And that age gap was BIG! So, I decided to tread cautiously and try anyway. I ended up falling in love with this story. Seventeen year old Akira Tachibana suffered and injury while running, and wasn't able to competitively run. During this time, she frequented a family restaurant with a scattered manager named Kondo. Because of his warmth and kindness, she is drawn to him. As she is working at the restaurant, she starts to develop feelings for him. Keep in mind that he is 45, divorced, and has a son. (The son adds a lot to the story btw. He's fantastic!) He is oblivious to her feelings, until she lays things out plainly for him. I don't want to spoil this beautiful story for you. Not only is the art stunning, (and yes, I totally have a girl crush on Tachibana, and yes,...

The Golden Sheep Volume 1 Review

Image
THE GOLDEN SHEEP VOL 1 BY KAORI OZAKI Thank you to my friends at Vertical Comics for sending this volume to me for review. Trigger Warning: Physical bullying, suicidal thoughts, attempted suicide, depression, and anxiety.  When this volume showed up in the mail, I was immediately impressed.  Not only was the cover STUNNING, but it was so well made.  With a matte, textured cover, this volume stands the test of time with its strong binding that didn't crack while reading it.  " Winter of junior year. Not quite able to become adults, we couldn't stay as we were as children, either. This story explores a group of teenagers and their impatience and rebirth." In this story, we are following four teenagers, with a primary focus on Tsugu Miikura, a high schooler who loves to play guitar.  Without her father, her family with five girls is moving into a two bedroom apartment. She is moving back to the town where she grew up and left three friends ...

LOVE IN FOCUS SERIES REVIEW

Image
I was lucky enough to convince the manager at my local Barnes and Noble to break open her boxes early so I could get my hands on the final volume of Love in Focus. And since you know I have no chill whatsoever, (maybe you dont, but now you do!) I went ahead and dug right into this volume In this series we are following Mako.  After the passing of an important family member to her, Mako has lost her footing.  The only thing grounding her to this world was photography, which she shared with this important family member. Her life long friend, Kei, convinces her to go to school with him for the photography program. Upon her arrival, she stumbles across a beautiful boy with long hair, walking a dog with a peaceful look on his face.  On instinct, she lifts her camera, and takes his photo.  She then apologizes to the beautiful boy, only to find out that they will both be living in the same boarding house. Even though he isn't in the photography club, everyo...

Twinkle Stars by Natsuki Takaya

Image
Twinkle Stars by Natsuki Takaya As a fan of the amazing Fruits Basket, I have been slowly working my way through other works of Natsuki Takaya. Today's pick is Twinkle Stars.  This story is contained within 5 omnibus volumes. These are put out by Yen Press, and the quality is fair. The flexible spines were really nice, (particularly on the 5th volume, which is the largest,) and the color panels beautiful.  In Twinkle Stars, we follow high schooler Sakuya, who loves to look at the stars. On her birthday, she comes home from work to find a gorgeous boy in her home. She thinks he is a friend of her house mate and family member, Kanade.  Kanade has been led to believe that he is Sakuya's boyfriend. He gives her a present, which contains a beautiful dress, and then leaves. Once these two realize there was a stranger in their home, Sakuya becomes curious about the beautiful Chihiro, and why he was in her home.  As she looks all over for him, she discovers th...

WELCOME TO THE SHAEGEEKSOUT BLOG! Thank you so much for stopping by!  This is a new project for me, and I hope it will be fruitful not only for me, but for my audience as well. I think I should take a minute to introduce myself!  My name is Shae, and I am a mid-thirites woman who lives in Utah, USA.  I read books, graphic novels, and manga. I adore reading, and it is such a fun hobby for me.  I used to blog my entire life out to the world, but don't do that anymore. (These have all been deleted, or made private, so you can't find them anymore.) I wanted to get back into blogging mostly for myself, but I wanted somewhere to share my thoughts on the things that I read.  If you would like me to talk about anything specifically, or even read something that you have enjoyed, feel free to leave me comments.  I will try to keep a balance of books, manga, and graphic novels as I read them. Fair warning, I am currently on a manga binge! I ho...
